I’ve corrected the debian package xserver-xorg-input-synaptics_0.99.2-0.1_i386.deb that you can find here: http://alioth.debian.org/~dsalt-guest/eee/
There was a dependency problem that prevented the installation in Ubuntu 8.10 (codename: intrepid), correcting the dependecy reference seems to solve this problem.
You can now use your elantech touchpad with kernel 2.6.28!
You can find the updated xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in my folder: http://www.alexworld.it/download/
or directly there: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics_0.99.2-0.1_i386.deb
